COURSE CURRICULUM

Across the four years of the BA Education course, students build a well-rounded understanding of education from both theoretical and practical perspectives. In Year 1, the focus is on building foundational knowledge by exploring key themes from sociology, psychology, history, and philosophy, which help students understand how education functions within modern society. Modules such as “Studying in Higher Education” and “Educational Theory and Practice” support students in developing critical study skills, introduce them to academic research methods, and explore how education systems are shaped by culture, politics, and technological change.In Year 2, students deepen their learning through more applied studies. They gain hands-on experience with research and placements through the “Research and Learning from Experience” module, and explore important educational topics such as inclusion, special educational needs, and educational psychology. These studies not only build subject knowledge but also help students reflect on their own values and experiences, preparing them for real-world educational settings.Year 3 offers the unique opportunity to study abroad at a partner university. This immersive international experience allows students to view education through a global lens, further enriching their understanding of inclusivity, pedagogy, and the diverse ways education is delivered and valued around the world.In the final year, students focus on independent research through a dissertation project, where they select a topic of interest and work closely with a supervisor to investigate it in depth. Alongside this, they explore specific areas such as teaching English as a second language and other optional modules related to media, politics, and curriculum. The final year supports students in refining their academic and practical skills, preparing them for further study, teacher training, or careers in education, community work, or educational policy.
