COURSE CURRICULUM

In your first year, you will lay the foundation for your studies in Drama by combining practical and theoretical work. You will begin by developing technical theatre skills in areas such as lighting, sound, costume, and stage management, gaining the independence to work in the Drama Studio throughout your degree. Alongside this, you will be introduced to a wide range of performance styles and acting techniques from across the world, helping you to build vocal, physical, and collaborative skills. Modules will also encourage you to explore performance critically and creatively, allowing you to examine everything from classical theatre to contemporary practices, including ritual, everyday performance, and devised work. Through collaborative theatre-making, you will experiment with visual arts, music, and text as part of ensemble-based creation. This year is designed to give you both a practical grounding in performance and production, as well as the analytical tools to think deeply about theatre and its place in global and historical contexts.In your second year, you will deepen your understanding of the theatre and creative industries. Through modules that explore programming, funding, and marketing, you will gain insight into how theatre is produced and sustained outside the rehearsal room. You will also explore applied drama, community-based work, and performance outside traditional venues. This year offers the flexibility to pursue directing, acting, scriptwriting, or technical theatre, building on your first-year experiences and refining your practical and professional skills.In your final year, you will bring together all the skills and knowledge you have gained to take part in a major production. You will be fully involved in both performance and production roles, working collaboratively with your peers. This capstone experience will prepare you for life beyond university, whether on stage, behind the scenes, or within wider creative industries
