COURSE CURRICULUM

In your first year, you will embark on an exciting journey that combines creativity, practical skills, and critical thinking. This year sets the tone for your degree, establishing a conversation between writing, doing, and thinking. On the Drama side, you will begin your training in technical theatre, learning essential skills in areas such as lighting, sound, costume, and stage management. These foundational skills will empower you to work independently in the Drama Studio for the remainder of your course. You will also begin to develop your on-stage abilities through actor training, engaging with a variety of performance techniques from around the world. This includes physical theatre, voice work, and ensemble collaboration, all of which will prepare you for practical and theoretical explorations of global theatre traditions. Modules such as Global Theatres and Collaborative Theatre-Making will broaden your understanding of cultural and performance contexts and enhance your ability to work creatively with others.On the Creative Writing side, you will explore the core forms of prose, poetry, and scriptwriting. The year begins with a focus on developing your unique writerly voice and understanding the fundamentals of storytelling, character, dialogue, and form. Through regular writing exercises, group discussions, and feedback sessions, you will sharpen your creative and critical abilities. As the year progresses, you will experiment with different genres, challenging conventions and developing your versatility as a writer. This holistic approach to writing will encourage you to take creative risks and deepen your understanding of literary craft.
