COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Diagnostic Radiography (Pre-Registration) programme is structured over two intensive years and combines academic study, clinical training and professional development to prepare students for registration and practice as Diagnostic Radiographers. During Stage One, students build the foundational knowledge and practical skills required for safe and effective radiographic practice through modules including Research Skills for Practice, Principles of Professional Practice, Clinical Practice for Radiography 1, Imaging Practice 1 and Imaging Practice 2. These modules introduce students to professional standards, patient-centred care, imaging technologies and the scientific principles that underpin diagnostic imaging while developing essential communication, teamwork and clinical decision-making skills. Clinical placement experiences are integrated throughout the programme, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in real healthcare environments and develop confidence in delivering high-quality patient care. In Stage Two, students further advance their expertise through modules including Scientific Project for Imaging Practice, Clinical Practice for Radiography 2, Imaging Practice 3 and The Graduate Practitioner. These modules focus on the development of advanced imaging skills, critical evaluation, research capability and professional autonomy, preparing students to manage increasingly complex clinical situations and contribute to service improvement within healthcare organisations. The Scientific Project for Imaging Practice enables students to undertake independent research and apply evidence-based approaches to contemporary issues within diagnostic radiography. Alongside the academic modules, students participate in a Professional Development Programme that runs throughout the two years and supports the development of professional values, reflective practice and lifelong learning skills. Core teaching is delivered within an inter-professional environment, allowing students to learn alongside other pre-registration and graduate-entry health and social care students and gain experience of multidisciplinary collaboration. Students also complete a professional development portfolio that provides evidence of the knowledge, competencies and personal attributes required for professional practice and future career progression within diagnostic radiography.
