COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Sustainable Architecture and Healthy Buildings includes an Independent Scholarship (Built Environment) module that enables students to develop advanced research skills through an in-depth investigation of a specialist topic related to sustainable architecture and the built environment. The module focuses on identifying, evaluating, and applying advanced research methodologies while developing the ability to design and conduct independent postgraduate research. Students explore a range of qualitative and quantitative research approaches, learn effective methods for collecting and analysing different types of data, and critically evaluate their findings in relation to current academic literature and professional practice. The module also encourages students to develop their own research philosophy, formulate meaningful research questions, and apply appropriate analytical techniques to address complex challenges within the built environment. Through this independent research project, students strengthen their critical thinking, problem-solving, analytical, and academic writing skills while demonstrating their ability to undertake rigorous postgraduate-level investigation. The university regularly reviews and updates module content to ensure it remains aligned with current industry developments, technological innovation, and graduate employability, providing students with relevant knowledge and research capabilities for careers in sustainable architecture, environmental design, construction, and the wider built environment sector.
