COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc International Business and Finance is delivered in a diverse and multicultural learning environment where students study alongside peers from around the world, developing both global business knowledge and cross-cultural awareness. Teaching combines lectures, workshops, group discussions, case studies, practical data analysis, networking opportunities, and collaborative projects to create an engaging and applied learning experience. Students receive extensive academic and personal support through online learning materials, digital resources, PebblePad employability workbooks, personal tutoring, and access to the University's comprehensive library and journals. The programme includes Independent Study: Research Methods (20 credits) and an Independent Dissertation (40 credits), enabling students to investigate a specialist topic aligned with their career interests while developing advanced research, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Previous dissertation topics have explored corporate governance in China and the UK, the impact of digitalisation on European banking and finance, behavioural finance in microfinance, foreign direct investment across developing countries, and the profitability of domestic and foreign banks in Nigeria. Students are encouraged to publish outstanding research through blogs or industry publications, further enhancing their professional profile. Additional opportunities include participating in prestigious competitions such as the University Trading Challenge and IBM University Business Challenge, allowing students to apply financial analysis, trading, and strategic decision-making skills in realistic business scenarios. Assessment is primarily coursework-based and is designed to develop practical and transferable skills through essays, business strategy reports, international business analyses, computer-based assignments, Bloomberg market evaluations, presentations, videos, portfolios, reflective practice, and group projects, with some modules also including formal examinations. This practical and research-focused approach ensures graduates are well prepared for careers in international business, banking, finance, consultancy, multinational corporations, and global organisations.
