COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Business Analytics at the University of Derby provides a comprehensive understanding of data analytics, business intelligence, and digital technologies to help organisations make informed, data-driven decisions in today's rapidly evolving business environment. The programme combines technical expertise with strategic business knowledge through core modules including Business Data Management, Business Statistical Analysis and Visualisation, Systems Analysis with Business Simulation, Operations Analytics and SAP, Marketing Metrics and Analysis, Independent Study: Research Methods, and an Independent Study: Dissertation. Students can further tailor their studies by choosing optional modules such as Risk Management in a Global Context or Applications of AI and Future Technologies. A key module, Business Data Management, introduces students to the principles of managing and analysing organisational data using modern information systems. Students learn how data is collected, extracted, organised, cleaned, stored, and integrated into business systems to support operational and strategic decision-making. The module explores management information systems, digital transformation, big data concepts, data governance, and the use of specialist software for effective data management. It also examines emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and highlights the importance of ethical, legal, and regulatory considerations such as data privacy, governance, GDPR, and responsible data use. Throughout the programme, students develop practical skills in statistical analysis, data visualisation, business simulation, enterprise resource planning, and marketing analytics while gaining experience with industry-standard digital tools.
