COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Applied Sport and Exercise Science is an advanced postgraduate programme designed to prepare graduates for professional careers in sport science, athlete performance, health promotion, and exercise intervention. The course combines scientific knowledge with practical experience, enabling students to work with athletes, teams, and individuals across a wide range of sporting and health environments. Students can tailor their studies to match their career goals through optional modules and specialist pathways in Sport Psychology or Performance Analysis. Core modules focus on practitioner development through extensive work placement experience, advanced research methods, and an independent research project that develops high-level analytical and investigative skills. Optional study areas include sport psychology, performance analysis, physiology, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, exercise psychology, training principles, and programming and data visualisation, allowing students to build expertise in their chosen discipline. The Psychology pathway explores behaviour change, athlete wellbeing, performance enhancement, and contemporary issues in sport psychology, while the Performance Analysis pathway develops skills in data collection, performance feedback, and the use of technology to improve sporting outcomes. Students benefit from access to modern laboratories and cutting-edge performance technology while working alongside experienced academics and industry professionals. The programme places a strong emphasis on employability through applied placements, internships, and collaboration with sports organisations, athletes, and teams.
