COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health programme uses a flexible and engaging approach to teaching and learning that combines traditional academic study with innovative digital methods to support students from a wide range of professional and educational backgrounds. Learning is delivered through a combination of on-campus lectures and online activities, providing students with opportunities to engage with course content both independently and collaboratively. Teaching takes place through virtual and physical classrooms where seminars, discussions and interactive sessions encourage critical thinking, knowledge sharing and the application of theory to contemporary public health challenges. Students also make use of a range of digital learning tools including wikis, blogs and discussion forums that promote collaboration, reflection and professional communication skills. Additional resources such as podcasts, pre-recorded lectures and scenario-based simulations provide flexible access to learning materials and allow students to explore complex public health issues in realistic and practice-focused contexts. To strengthen practical understanding and professional awareness, students are encouraged to arrange public health experience opportunities or insight visits that enable them to observe and engage with public health practice in real-world settings. Assessment methods are designed to reflect the types of outputs and responsibilities encountered within modern public health careers, ensuring that students develop the analytical, communication and leadership skills required by employers and professional organisations. Assessments may include academic posters, case study analyses, funding bid presentations, global health intervention reports, health economic appraisals, policy briefs and epidemiological data analyses, all of which develop the ability to evaluate evidence and communicate findings effectively to different audiences. The programme culminates in an independent scholarship project that enables students to demonstrate advanced research, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities while investigating a public health issue of professional relevance. This substantial project prepares graduates for advanced public health practice, leadership roles and progression to further academic study or doctoral research.
