COURSE CURRICULUM

The programme offers a comprehensive and professionally focused curriculum designed to develop advanced knowledge and practical expertise in music and media production technologies. Students begin by studying Research Methods: Application and Evaluation, which develops essential skills in research design, critical analysis and the evaluation of methodologies used within creative and technological disciplines, preparing them for independent academic and professional investigation. The Perceptual Technologies module explores the relationship between human perception and audio technologies, enabling students to understand how sound is experienced and how technological systems can be designed to enhance listening experiences and media applications. Music Production Systems provides in-depth knowledge of contemporary production environments, workflows and technologies used in professional music creation, recording and production, while encouraging creativity and technical proficiency. At the postgraduate diploma stage, students undertake CPD and Strategic Management, which focuses on continuing professional development, leadership skills and strategic decision-making required for successful careers within the creative industries. The Studio Production module develops advanced practical skills in recording, mixing and producing music and audio content within professional studio environments, enabling students to gain experience with industry-standard equipment and production techniques. Students can further tailor their studies through an optional module choice between Digital Signal Processing and Sound Design, which explores advanced audio processing techniques and creative sound design practices, or a Negotiated Module that allows them to specialise in an area aligned with their personal interests or career ambitions. The programme culminates in the Independent Scholarship (Technology) project, a substantial research study that enables students to apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course to an original investigation within their chosen field. This final project develops independence, critical thinking and research expertise while preparing graduates for professional practice, leadership roles or further academic study.
