COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Dance Movement Psychotherapy programme uses a practice-based and professionally focused approach to learning, combining theoretical knowledge, creative exploration, clinical experience, and reflective practice. Students are taught by experienced professionals who provide specialist guidance in areas such as body and mind relationships, cultural diversity, movement-based therapeutic approaches, and community practice. The teaching team supports students in developing the skills required to meet professional standards established by the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy UK (ADMP UK). Learning is enriched through placement opportunities, where students gain practical experience in clinical and community settings while developing their confidence as future practitioners. Assessment methods are designed to reflect the creative and professional nature of the discipline and include verbal presentations, written assignments, videos, spoken work, creative activities, and group facilitation tasks. These assessments allow students to demonstrate their understanding of therapeutic principles, communication skills, creativity, and ability to apply knowledge in practice. Clinical placements are an essential part of the programme and are assessed through placement reports, supervision discussions with university tutors, and reflective case studies based on practical experiences. Students are encouraged to consider ethical responsibilities when documenting and analysing therapeutic work, developing professional awareness and reflective skills. Through a combination of expert teaching, supervised clinical practice, creative assessment methods, and ongoing feedback, the programme prepares graduates to become competent, ethical, and compassionate Dance Movement Psychotherapists capable of working in healthcare, community, and therapeutic environments.
