COURSE CURRICULUM

This Accounting and Finance programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of financial management, accounting principles, business operations, and professional practice while preparing them for careers in accounting, auditing, taxation, and financial services. In the first stage of study, students build a strong foundation through modules covering financial accounting, management accounting, economics, business law, digital operations, information technology, FinTech, and professional academic skills. Students develop practical expertise in double-entry bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, international accounting standards, and the role of accounting within organisations operating under International GAAP frameworks. As the programme progresses, students explore more advanced areas including audit and assurance, financial management, business taxation, and professional development. The audit modules examine the historical development of auditing, auditor independence, financial crime detection, legal responsibilities, internal and external audit relationships, and the practical application of audit techniques throughout the audit process from planning to reporting. Students can choose between examination and non-examination assessment routes in selected modules, allowing flexibility to suit different learning styles and preferences. The programme also includes opportunities for industry experience through a negotiated work placement module, enabling students to apply academic knowledge in professional environments while gaining valuable workplace skills and experience. In the final stage, students study strategic financial management topics such as capital budgeting, capital structure, dividend policy, investment decisions, and shareholder value creation. They develop the ability to analyse complex financial information, evaluate strategic options, and communicate recommendations effectively through reports, presentations, seminars, and workshops. Optional modules provide opportunities to specialise in areas such as financial reporting, taxation, global business accountability, investment behaviour, and financial markets.
