COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport Therapy and Rehabilitation curriculum is designed to provide students with a progressive combination of scientific knowledge, clinical expertise, and practical experience required for professional practice in sports therapy and rehabilitation. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation through modules including Academic and Research Skills for Sport and Exercise, Principles of Sport and Exercise Physiology, Introduction to Sport and Injury Biomechanics, Introduction to Therapeutic Principles, Musculoskeletal Anatomy, and Sports Massage. These modules introduce the scientific principles of human movement, anatomy, physiology, injury mechanisms, therapeutic interventions, massage techniques, and research methods while strengthening academic, communication, and professional skills. In the second year, students build advanced clinical knowledge through Research Methods for Sport and Exercise, Injury Biomechanics and Corrective Principles, Manual Therapy, Musculoskeletal Assessment: Peripheral, Sports Specific Rehabilitation, and Sports Trauma Management. These modules focus on injury assessment, manual therapy techniques, rehabilitation planning, emergency sports care, and evidence-based clinical practice, enabling students to evaluate and manage a wide range of sports-related injuries. In the final year, students integrate their knowledge through an Independent Study, allowing them to conduct an in-depth research project or industry-focused investigation while developing advanced analytical and critical thinking skills. They also complete modules in Advanced Musculoskeletal Assessment: Spinal, Sports Conditioning, and Clinical Placement, gaining expertise in spinal assessment, athlete conditioning, rehabilitation, and professional clinical practice through supervised placement experience. Throughout the program, students combine classroom learning with laboratory sessions, practical clinical training, and research, developing the technical, diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation, and communication skills required to assess injuries, deliver effective therapy, design rehabilitation and conditioning programs, and support athletes throughout recovery and performance enhancement. This comprehensive curriculum prepares graduates for careers in sports therapy, rehabilitation, sports medicine support, performance services, private clinical practice, and related healthcare settings while also providing a strong foundation for postgraduate study and continued professional development.
