COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy curriculum is designed to develop your clinical knowledge, practical competence and professional confidence through an integrated programme of academic study and practice placements. In your first year, you will study core modules including Fundamentals of Physiotherapy Practice, Professional Skills and Practice, Introduction to Primary and Community Care, Introduction to Secondary Care and Practice Placement 1. You will build a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, pathology and rehabilitation while learning assessment techniques, therapeutic handling skills, movement analysis, patient interviewing and evidence-based clinical decision making. Using real patient case studies from musculoskeletal, neurological and respiratory physiotherapy, you will develop the ability to assess patients of all ages, formulate rehabilitation plans and deliver person-centred care while considering equality, diversity and inclusion. Early clinical placements allow you to apply your learning in real healthcare environments under professional supervision. In your second year, you will expand your expertise through modules including Professional Skills and Practice 2, Scientific and Digital Skills, Health Promotion, Illness Prevention and Wellbeing, Applied Physiotherapy Practice and Practice Placements 2a and 2b. You will explore leadership, safeguarding, interprofessional collaboration, health inequalities, global health, sustainability, resilience and service improvement while strengthening your clinical reasoning and communication skills. You will also learn to analyse health data, understand population health and promote evidence-based physiotherapy interventions within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. In your final year, you will prepare for professional practice through modules including Preparation for Graduate Practice, Ageing and Long-Term Conditions, Specialisms and Advanced Practice, Practice Placements 3a and 3b and a Dissertation. You will consolidate your advanced clinical knowledge, undertake an independent research project, develop specialist physiotherapy skills and gain further placement experience across a range of healthcare settings. The programme also focuses on employability through portfolio development, interview preparation, professional reflection, resilience, leadership, preceptorship and continuing professional development, ensuring a smooth transition into practice. Throughout the course, you will develop advanced clinical reasoning, patient assessment, rehabilitation planning, communication, teamwork and research skills while completing extensive practice-based learning. By graduation, you will be fully prepared to register with the HCPC, join the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and pursue careers in hospitals, community healthcare, rehabilitation, sports medicine, private practice, public health and other specialist physiotherapy settings.
