COURSE CURRICULUM

The Adult Nursing curriculum is designed to develop the knowledge, clinical competence, and professional values required for safe, evidence-based, and compassionate nursing practice. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation through core modules including Introduction to Nursing, Health Sciences for Nursing Practice (Adult), and Person-centred Nursing Care for Health and Wellbeing (Adult). The Introduction to Nursing module familiarises students with the role of the registered nurse, professional responsibilities, legal and ethical frameworks, evidence-based practice, communication, reflective practice, emotional intelligence, infection prevention and control, health and safety, record keeping, and the delivery of person-centred care. Students also develop essential clinical skills while preparing for practice placements in healthcare settings. In the second year, students deepen their understanding through Research for Health and Wellbeing, Pharmacological and Psychosocial Interventions (Adult Nursing), and Developing Nursing Practice (Adult). These modules focus on applying research evidence to nursing practice, promoting health and preventing illness, understanding epidemiology, public health, health inequalities, and the wider determinants of health. Students also explore research methods, ethics, governance, therapeutic communication, pharmacology, psychosocial care, and the impact of lifestyle factors such as smoking, substance use, nutrition, exercise, immunisation, and health screening on patient wellbeing. In the final year, students prepare for autonomous professional practice through Leadership for Nursing Practice (Adult), Innovation and Improvement in Nursing Practice (Adult), and Transition to Autonomous Practice (Adult). The Leadership for Nursing Practice module develops skills in leadership, management, teamwork, delegation, risk management, patient safety, organisational culture, healthcare quality improvement, public health, medication management, clinical decision-making, and responding to critical incidents. Students also learn to evaluate and improve care, supervise others, and apply advanced pharmacological knowledge in preparation for future prescribing responsibilities. Throughout the programme, students combine academic study with extensive clinical placements and simulation-based learning, enabling them to build confidence, critical thinking, communication, and professional judgement. This comprehensive curriculum prepares graduates to deliver high-quality, compassionate care as registered adult nurses in hospitals, community healthcare, primary care, specialist services, and a wide range of healthcare settings.
