COURSE CURRICULUM

This BSc (Hons) Construction Management degree develops the knowledge, technical understanding and leadership skills needed to manage construction projects and the wider built environment effectively. The programme builds a strong foundation in construction technology, economics, surveying, design coordination and project delivery, preparing you for professional roles in a fast-paced and highly regulated industry. In the first year, you study core modules such as Construction Materials Technology, Construction Organisation and Economics, Environmental Design and Services, Site Surveying, Technology and Structures, and CAD and Mathematics for Construction, giving you essential knowledge of materials, structural behaviour, environmental systems, measurement and construction design tools. Construction Materials Technology focuses on selecting appropriate materials based on performance, cost, manufacturing methods, sustainability and health and safety considerations. In the second year, you progress to more applied and industry-focused learning through modules including Maintenance and Refurbishment, Measurement and Cost Studies, Procurement, Contracts and Legal Studies, Project Planning and Development, Technology and Structures 2, and BIM and AI, developing your ability to manage construction processes, evaluate costs, understand legal frameworks and use modern digital tools such as Building Information Modelling. In the final year, you study Facilities Management and Property Development, Professional Practice and Project Management, Construction Value and Cost Studies 2, and an Independent Study, along with advanced construction management modules that integrate civil engineering principles and real-world decision-making. The programme also explores building maintenance, refurbishment, sustainability of historic structures, asset management and the lifecycle of built assets. You will gain practical experience through applied projects and case studies that reflect real industry challenges, developing skills in leadership, planning, budgeting, risk management and stakeholder coordination. Graduates are well prepared for careers in construction project management, site management, facilities management, property development, contract administration and commercial management, with strong progression routes into senior leadership roles within the construction and built environment sector.
