COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence and Healthcare curriculum combines artificial intelligence, data science, and healthcare to develop graduates with the technical and clinical knowledge required to support digital transformation in healthcare. In the first year, students study core modules including Logic and Discrete Mathematics, Programming, Ethics and Artificial Intelligence, Digital Skills for Artificial Intelligence, Social Inequality, and Health Perspectives. These modules establish strong foundations in programming, mathematics, AI ethics, digital technologies, healthcare systems, and the social factors influencing health. Students develop essential skills in algebra, logic, discrete mathematics, graphs, networks, matrices, and computational problem-solving while exploring health inequalities, patient wellbeing, and the broader social determinants of health. In the second year, students advance their expertise through core modules in Data Science and Modelling Fundamentals, Introduction to Machine Learning, Research Methods in Artificial Intelligence, Team Project on Contemporary Issues in AI, Research in Health and Social Care, and Public Health and Health Promotion. These modules develop practical skills in data modelling, forecasting, visualisation, exploratory data analysis, machine learning, AI research methods, and health research while enabling students to apply artificial intelligence to public health challenges and healthcare decision-making through collaborative projects. In the final year, students build advanced knowledge through core modules including Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Deep Learning, Individual Project in Applied AI, Managing Services, and The Impact of Living with Long Term Health Conditions. Students explore the latest developments in artificial intelligence, deep learning, and data science using industry-standard tools while examining healthcare management, service delivery, and the experiences of individuals living with chronic health conditions. The Individual Project in Applied AI enables students to undertake independent research and develop innovative AI solutions to real-world healthcare problems. Throughout the programme, students integrate technical expertise with healthcare knowledge, developing strong analytical, research, programming, communication, and problem-solving skills. Overall, the curriculum prepares graduates for careers in digital health, health informatics, artificial intelligence, clinical data science, healthcare technology, medical research, public health, and health service management, while providing a strong foundation for postgraduate study and continued professional development in the rapidly evolving healthcare and AI sectors.
