COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology curriculum develops the technical, digital, and professional skills required for careers in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries. In the first year, students study core modules including Architectural CAD, Studio Design and Personal Development 1A and 1B, Construction Materials Technology, Environmental Design and Services, and Technology and Structures 1. These modules provide a strong foundation in architectural design, construction technology, building materials, structural principles, environmental systems, and computer-aided design (CAD). Students learn to create, modify, and present architectural drawings using industry-standard CAD software while developing practical design, technical communication, and problem-solving skills through studio-based learning. In the second year, students enhance their expertise through core modules including BIM and AI, Studio Design and Personal Development 2A, Architectural Technology and Building Systems, Procurement, Contracts and Legal Studies, Technology and Structures 2, and Sustainable Cities. Building on CAD knowledge, students develop advanced skills in Building Information Modelling (BIM), exploring how artificial intelligence supports generative design, design optimisation, visualisation, and project management. They also gain a deeper understanding of building systems, construction procurement, contractual and legal frameworks, structural engineering, and sustainable urban development while continuing to refine their architectural design capabilities through studio projects. In the final year, students integrate their learning through core modules including Integrated Project (Technology), Independent Study and Personal Development (Architecture), Professional Practice and Project Management, and Advanced Technical Design and Detailing. The Integrated Project serves as the culmination of the programme, requiring students to independently apply architectural, technological, structural, regulatory, and professional knowledge to produce a comprehensive design solution that meets aesthetic, functional, and legislative requirements. Students also develop expertise in technical detailing, project management, professional practice, and independent research while presenting their work through professional design reviews and visual presentations. Throughout the programme, students strengthen their digital, analytical, technical, communication, and project management skills using industry-standard software and technologies. Overall, the curriculum combines architectural design, CAD, BIM, artificial intelligence, sustainable construction, structural engineering, and professional practice to prepare graduates for careers in architectural technology, architectural practice, construction management, BIM coordination, design consultancy, property development, and the wider built environment sector.
