COURSE CURRICULUM

The Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) curriculum is designed to develop the professional knowledge, practical teaching skills, and reflective practice required for a successful career in primary education. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through School Practice 1 and 2, Enrichment 1, Marginalisation of Education, Safeguarding, Theories of Childhood: Child Development, and Professional Practice 1. These modules introduce the primary curriculum, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), child development, inclusive education, safeguarding responsibilities, language development, and professional teaching practice while providing early classroom experience that connects educational theory with practice. In the second year, students expand their expertise through School Practice 3 and 4, Enrichment 2, Theories of Learning, Theories of Behaviour, Introducing Educational Research, and Professional Practice 2. The curriculum focuses on curriculum planning, sequential learning, adaptive teaching strategies, classroom management, educational psychology, behaviour management, and research-informed practice. Students also strengthen their teaching skills through extended school placements, where they apply innovative teaching approaches and evaluate their impact on pupil learning. In the final year, students complete School Practice 5 and 6, Civic Responsibility: Community Cohesion, The Global Teacher, Educational Inquiry, and Professional Practice 3. These modules develop advanced knowledge of assessment strategies, global education, community engagement, educational research, and reflective professional practice while preparing students to evaluate and improve teaching and learning across the primary curriculum. Throughout the program, students gain extensive practical teaching experience in partner schools, progressively building confidence in lesson planning, curriculum delivery, assessment, classroom leadership, and inclusive practice. The curriculum integrates academic study with professional placements, ensuring graduates develop the knowledge, skills, and resilience required to meet the Teachers' Standards and achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Upon graduation, students are well prepared to begin careers as primary school teachers, equipped to create inclusive, engaging, and high-quality learning environments that support the academic, social, and personal development of all children.
