COURSE CURRICULUM

The Theatre Arts curriculum is designed to develop students’ creative, performance, and production skills through a progressive combination of practical training, collaborative projects, and professional experience. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation through Performance Practice 1: Acting Skills, Devising 1: The Creative Process, Analysing Performance, Spotlight on Industry Practice, and Technical Theatre and Design. These modules develop essential skills in acting, voice, movement, ensemble performance, script and character analysis, directing, stagecraft, and technical theatre while introducing influential theatre practitioners and contemporary performance techniques. Students also gain an understanding of theatre production processes and the professional performing arts industry. In the second year, students expand their creative and collaborative abilities through Devising 2: Performance Making – Creation and Collaboration, Spotlight on Research and Professional Practice, Introduction to Applied Drama, and Performance Practice. The curriculum encourages experimentation, innovation, and creative risk-taking as students explore contemporary theatre-making, audience engagement, applied drama, performance creation, directing, writing, and producing. Working collaboratively, students develop original performances and present their work in professional-style showcase events, receiving valuable feedback from industry practitioners. In the final year, students demonstrate their professional capabilities through Independent Production, Devising 3: Independent Project, and Spotlight on Employability. Students form theatre companies and independently plan, produce, and stage original productions while managing all aspects of the creative process, including research, rehearsal management, funding, marketing, promotion, documentation, and ethical professional practice. The independent project allows students to specialize in areas such as acting, directing, writing, producing, or performance creation while building a professional portfolio that reflects their individual artistic interests and career goals. Throughout the program, students combine creative exploration with practical performance experience, developing advanced artistic, technical, leadership, collaboration, and project management skills. This comprehensive curriculum prepares graduates for careers as actors, directors, theatre makers, producers, educators, arts practitioners, and creative professionals, while also providing a strong foundation for postgraduate study and continued professional development in the performing arts.
