COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology and Law curriculum provides an interdisciplinary education that combines the scientific study of human behaviour with a strong foundation in legal principles, allowing students to tailor their studies through Joint, Major, or Minor pathways. In the first year, students study core psychology modules including Introduction to Social and Cognitive Psychology, Introduction to Biological and Developmental Psychology, and Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology alongside key law modules such as Constitutional Law and Civil Liberties, Legal Skills and Practice, and Administrative Law and Human Rights. These modules introduce psychological theories, research methods, cognition, social behaviour, legal systems, public law, and human rights while developing critical thinking, research, communication, and legal reasoning skills. At the intermediate level, students can choose from a wide range of psychology options, including Biological and Developmental Psychology, Animal Behaviour, Psychopathology, Cyberpsychology, Forensic Psychology, Health Psychology, Psychology, Nature and Wellbeing, and Qualitative or Quantitative Research Methods, as well as law modules such as Criminal Law Principles and Application, Criminal Practice and Property Offences, Law and Business in Context, and European Union Law and its International Context. These modules deepen understanding of brain function, lifespan development, mental health, criminal behaviour, legal practice, and the relationship between psychology and the justice system. In the final year, students further specialise through advanced psychology modules covering areas such as Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology, Positive Psychology, Behaviour Change, Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD, Human Behaviour and Evolution, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Psychology of Pain, Communication, Education, Parenting, Sexuality and Gender, and Forensic Applications of Psychology, alongside optional law subjects including Employment Law, Company Law, Evidence, Family Law, Intellectual Property Law, Human Rights in a Global World, Domestic Abuse, Sustainable Development and International Business Law, and International Law and World Affairs. Students may also complete an Independent Study in Psychology, conducting original research under academic supervision while developing advanced analytical, research, and transferable skills. This flexible curriculum prepares graduates for careers in psychology, law, criminal justice, research, public services, human resources, education, and related professional fields.
