COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport (PEPAS) curriculum is designed to develop the knowledge, teaching expertise, and practical skills required for careers in physical education, sport coaching, and physical activity promotion. In the first year, students establish a strong academic and professional foundation through modules including Academic and Research Skills for Sport and Exercise, Coaching and Skill Acquisition, Foundational Movement Skills, Introduction to Coaching Science, and Introduction to Teaching Physical Education. These modules develop essential competencies in teaching methods, coaching principles, movement development, research techniques, academic communication, and educational practice while supporting personal and professional development through career-focused activities. In the second year, students expand their expertise through Research Methods for Sport and Exercise, Principles and Practices of Training, Coaching Children and Adolescents, The Learning Coach: The Learning Approach, Exploring Cognition and Learning Needs, and Psychology for Physical Activity Practitioners. These modules strengthen students’ understanding of evidence-based teaching, learner development, training principles, educational psychology, inclusive learning strategies, and the physical and psychological factors that influence participation and performance. Students also enhance their research capabilities by designing and evaluating research projects relevant to physical education and sport. In the final year, students undertake an Independent Study, completing an in-depth research project or industry-focused investigation that develops advanced analytical and critical thinking skills. They also study Adaptive Coaching Theory and Practice, The Outdoor Classroom, and Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity, gaining expertise in inclusive coaching, outdoor education, curriculum delivery, and the planning and management of physical education and school sport programs. Throughout the program, students combine academic learning with practical teaching experiences, developing strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, research, and instructional skills. This comprehensive curriculum prepares graduates for careers in physical education, sport coaching, school sport development, community physical activity programs, outdoor education, and related educational settings, while also providing an excellent foundation for postgraduate teacher training and continued professional development.
