COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music and Business curriculum combines creative music practice with business education, enabling students to develop artistic talent alongside commercial and management skills. In the first year, students study core modules including Performance Redefined, Art and Science of Recording, Understanding People in Organisations, Finance and Business Performance, and Marketing Fundamentals. These modules introduce musical performance, recording techniques, business finance, organisational behaviour, and marketing principles while encouraging students to experiment with different musical traditions and expressive styles. The Performance Redefined module develops musicianship by exploring alternative performance practices, encouraging creative risk-taking, artistic expression, and effective communication with audiences while strengthening technical performance skills. In the second year, students can tailor their learning through optional modules including Spatial Sound and Music Perception, Performance and Studio Production, Music Business Studies, Public Relations Practice, Managing Financial Resources, People Resourcing and Talent Planning, Quantitative Skills for Business, The Corporate IT Landscape, Creativity and Innovation, Digital and Social Media, Project Strategy, and Managing Performance through People. The Spatial Sound and Music Perception module introduces advanced multi-channel audio production and immersive sound technologies, preparing students to create audio for applications such as virtual reality, cinema, education, gaming, and digital media. These modules also develop expertise in music production, business management, marketing, innovation, finance, leadership, and digital technologies. In the final year, students continue to personalise their studies through optional modules including Music Portfolio, Creative Project, Research Project, International Entrepreneurship, Creating Business Opportunities, Marketing Across Cultures, Brand Impact and Popular Culture, Financial Statement Analysis, Comparative International Human Resource Management, International Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, and Retail Distribution Logistics. The Music Portfolio module enables students to create a professionally produced portfolio of original compositions or arrangements, demonstrating advanced recording, production, project management, editing, and critical evaluation skills while preparing work suitable for commercial use. Throughout the programme, students develop technical expertise in music performance and production alongside entrepreneurial thinking, leadership, communication, teamwork, and business management capabilities. This interdisciplinary curriculum prepares graduates for careers in music performance, music production, artist management, entertainment business, marketing, event management, entrepreneurship, media, and the wider creative industries.
