COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law and Economics curriculum combines legal studies with economic analysis, giving students a strong understanding of legal systems, public policy, business environments, and economic decision-making. In the first year, students study core modules including Constitutional Law and Civil Liberties, Administrative Law and Human Rights, Legal Skills and Practice, and Economic Policy Analysis. These modules introduce the foundations of the English legal system, constitutional principles, human rights, public law, legal research, and academic legal writing, while also developing an understanding of how economic policies influence businesses, governments, and society. The Constitutional Law and Civil Liberties module examines the historical and contemporary foundations of public power in England, the protection of civil liberties, and the influence of international legal obligations and human rights frameworks. In the second year, students strengthen their analytical and quantitative skills through core modules such as Data Analysis and Applied Intermediate Macroeconomics. The Data Analysis module develops practical expertise in Excel-based economic analysis, data collection, sampling, statistical testing, data interpretation, and communicating findings to professional audiences. Students can further tailor their studies through optional modules including Criminal Law Principles and Application, Criminal Practice and Property Offences, Law and Business in Context, European Union Law and its International Context, Public and Third Sector Economics, Applied Intermediate Microeconomics, and Current Debates in Applied Economic Theory. In the final year, students complete the Applied Economics Project, a major research-based module in which they undertake a small-scale economic consultancy project using real-world data and analytical techniques, often engaging with local organisations and presenting findings in a professional client report. Additional optional modules include Commercial and Consumer Law, Company Law, Employment Law, Evidence, Family Law and Practice, Intellectual Property Law, Human Rights in a Global World, International Law and World Affairs, International Business Economics, Financial Risk Management, Economics of Sustainable Business Growth, Investing and Financial Market Behaviour, and International Banking. This interdisciplinary curriculum develops expertise in legal reasoning, economic analysis, research, data interpretation, policy evaluation, and professional communication, preparing graduates for careers in law, economics, finance, banking, consultancy, government, public policy, regulation, compliance, and international business.
