COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law and Accounting curriculum combines legal education with professional accounting knowledge, providing students with a strong foundation in both disciplines while allowing flexibility through a range of optional modules. In the first year, students study core law modules including Constitutional Law and Civil Liberties, Administrative Law and Human Rights, and Legal Skills and Practice, alongside Introduction to Financial Accounting, Introduction to Management Accounting, and Law for Accounting. These modules introduce the English legal system, constitutional principles, civil liberties, public law, legal writing, financial reporting, management accounting, and the legal framework governing accounting practice. Students develop essential skills in legal research, academic writing, financial analysis, and professional communication. In the second year, students build their accounting expertise through Management Accounting and Financial Accounting, exploring costing techniques, budgeting, forecasting, financial decision-making, overhead allocation, activity-based costing, and financial reporting for different industries. They can also broaden their legal and business knowledge by selecting optional modules such as Criminal Law Principles and Application, Criminal Practice and Property Offences, Law and Business in Context, European Union Law and its International Context, Business Taxation, Financial Management, and Audit and Assurance. In the final year, students further specialise by choosing from advanced law and accounting modules including Commercial and Consumer Law, Company Law, Employment Law, Comparative Law, Evidence, Family Law and Practice, Intellectual Property Law, Human Rights in a Global World, International Law and World Affairs, Sustainable Development and International Business Law, Domestic Abuse, Financial Strategy, Management Accounting Performance Evaluation, Personal Taxation, Financial Reporting, and Contemporary Reporting Issues. The Commercial and Consumer Law module examines contracts, consumer protection, product safety, insurance, agency, and commercial transactions while highlighting their practical application in business and international contexts. This integrated curriculum develops expertise in legal reasoning, accounting, financial management, commercial awareness, and analytical problem-solving, preparing graduates for careers in law, accounting, auditing, taxation, finance, corporate governance, compliance, consultancy, business management, and postgraduate professional training.
