COURSE CURRICULUM

The History and Business Management degree combines the study of history with core business disciplines, providing students with a broad academic foundation and valuable transferable skills. In the first year, students explore historical methods, the Renaissance and Reformation, migration and empire, alongside business subjects including organisational behaviour, finance and marketing. History modules develop research, critical thinking and source analysis skills by examining historiography, historical debates and the interpretation of evidence, while business modules introduce key management concepts and organisational practices. In the second year, students can tailor their studies through optional modules covering topics such as the Cold War, contemporary Britain, dictatorships, public history, research methods and the early modern world, alongside business options including public relations, financial management, human resource management, digital and social media, creativity, project management and business technology. In the final year, students further personalise their degree with specialist history modules exploring India and its diaspora, China, total war, British country houses, material culture and independent research, while also choosing from advanced business modules in international marketing, human resource management, entrepreneurship, financial analysis, logistics and supply chain management. This flexible structure enables students to combine historical knowledge with practical business expertise according to their interests and career goals. Throughout the programme, students strengthen their analytical, communication, research, leadership and problem-solving abilities while gaining commercial awareness and an understanding of how organisations operate. The interdisciplinary curriculum prepares graduates for a wide range of careers across business management, marketing, consulting, public administration, heritage management, museums, tourism, education, communications and the cultural sector. By integrating historical enquiry with business knowledge, the programme develops graduates who can analyse complex issues from multiple perspectives, communicate effectively, adapt to changing environments and apply both historical insight and business skills to real-world challenges in national and international workplaces.
