COURSE CURRICULUM

The Theatre Arts with Entrepreneurship curriculum combines professional theatre training with business and enterprise education, enabling students to develop both creative and entrepreneurial expertise. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through Spotlight on Industry Practice, Devising 1: The Creative Process, Technical Theatre and Design, Marketing Fundamentals, Developing an Enterprising Mindset, and Finance and Business Performance. These modules introduce theatre production, creative performance, technical theatre, marketing, business finance, and entrepreneurial thinking while providing valuable insights into the operations of a professional theatre. Students engage with industry professionals across areas such as directing, technical production, marketing, fundraising, learning, and front-of-house management, developing an understanding of collaborative working and professional practice. In the second year, students strengthen their creative and business capabilities through Devising 2: Performance Making – Creation and Collaboration, Spotlight on Research and Professional Practice, Introduction to Applied Drama, Social and Sustainable Enterprise, and Innovation and Implementation, with optional modules in Sustainability and Responsible Management or Managing Performance through People. These modules encourage students to create original theatre productions while exploring innovation, social entrepreneurship, sustainable business practices, leadership, and professional development. They also gain practical experience presenting original work and receiving feedback from theatre professionals. In the final year, students complete Devising 3: Independent Project, Freelancing Skills and Working for Yourself, and Developing a Global Enterprise, with optional modules in Global Business and Strategy or Developing Leadership and Management. Students undertake a substantial independent theatre project, allowing them to specialize in areas such as acting, directing, writing, producing, design, or backstage production while applying professional research and creative practices. They also develop essential entrepreneurial skills in freelancing, business development, leadership, and global enterprise, preparing them to establish and manage successful creative careers or businesses. Throughout the program, students combine artistic development with commercial awareness, project management, and innovation, graduating with the creative, technical, and entrepreneurial skills needed for careers in theatre, arts management, creative enterprise, cultural leadership, production, and the wider creative industries.
