COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business and English programme offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that combines business management with the study of English literature, developing students’ expertise in communication, critical thinking, leadership, and cultural understanding across three years of study. In the first year, students build a strong foundation by studying organisational behaviour, marketing, finance, literary theory, Shakespeare, and fantasy literature. They explore how organisations function, how employee behaviour influences workplace performance, and how management theories can be applied to solve business challenges while developing analytical, communication, research, and interpretation skills through the study of literature from different historical periods. Modules in literary theory, Shakespeare, and fantasy texts encourage students to examine language, culture, identity, and historical contexts, strengthening their critical reading and written communication abilities. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of responsible business management through core modules in sustainability and responsible management and applied operations management, exploring ethical leadership, corporate governance, stakeholder engagement, climate change, global social responsibility, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They can tailor their studies by selecting optional modules in areas such as public relations, financial management, human resource management, digital media, creativity and innovation, project strategy, and business technology, alongside English modules covering modernism, nineteenth-century realism, Romantic poetry, literature and identity, and research methods. In the final year, students further personalise their degree through a broad range of advanced optional modules in both business and English. Business options include global business and strategy, leadership, international entrepreneurship, marketing across cultures, financial statement analysis, international purchasing and supply chain management, and human resource management, while English options explore themes such as colonialism, crime fiction, tragedy, gender and identity, postmodernism, intercultural drama, contemporary poetry, eighteenth-century literature, and independent research. Throughout the programme, students develop strong analytical, leadership, research, communication, problem-solving, and intercultural skills while learning to apply business knowledge alongside literary and cultural analysis. By integrating business management with English studies, the course prepares graduates for careers in business management, marketing, communications, publishing, public relations, human resources, education, media, consultancy, cultural organisations, and other professions requiring strong organisational, creative, and communication skills.
