COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Business Accounting and Finance curriculum is designed to develop students’ knowledge progressively from core accounting principles to advanced financial and strategic management skills. In the first year, students establish a strong academic foundation through modules in financial accounting, management accounting, market economics, business law, digital operations, IT, FinTech, and professional academic skills. They learn essential accounting techniques, including double-entry bookkeeping, preparation of financial statements for different business entities, and the application of International GAAP and accounting standards. The second year builds on this knowledge with advanced studies in financial accounting, financial management, management accounting, international taxation, project strategy, and management practices for accountants. Students gain a deeper understanding of corporate financial reporting, risk management, financial statement preparation, group accounting, budgeting, costing, and strategic decision-making while choosing between exam-based and non-exam-based assessment routes for selected modules. In the final year, the programme focuses on advanced management accounting, sustainability, governance, auditing, and strategic business leadership. Students develop the ability to evaluate organisational performance, apply management accounting techniques to complex business scenarios, measure business performance, and communicate financial information effectively to managers and stakeholders at all organisational levels. Optional modules such as Financial Reporting, Professional Consultancy Project, Investing and Financial Market Behaviour, and Independent Study enable students to specialise according to their career interests while gaining valuable practical experience. Teaching is delivered through lectures, seminars, case studies, industry guest speakers, and collaborative group activities that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional communication. Throughout the course, students strengthen both technical accounting expertise and analytical skills while learning to apply financial knowledge in real-world business environments. The curriculum prepares graduates for careers in accounting, auditing, taxation, financial management, banking, consultancy, and related business sectors, while also supporting progression towards globally recognised professional accounting qualifications through its comprehensive academic and practical approach.
