COURSE CURRICULUM

The curriculum is designed to develop advanced management capabilities and equip students with the skills needed to address the complexity of modern health and social care systems. Through a carefully structured set of modules, students explore key areas such as strategic commissioning, financing of health services, ethical leadership, innovation in healthcare, and governance within global health systems. Core modules include Commissioning and Financing Health Services, which develops understanding of funding models and resource allocation, and Ethical Leadership and Governance in Health Systems, focusing on accountability, regulation, and ethical decision making. Innovation in Health and Social Care examines new approaches to service design and improvement, while Management Research Methods equips students with the skills required to design and conduct applied research. A central feature of the course is the opportunity to undertake a substantial research or practice-based project. Students may choose to complete a Management Research Project, enabling in-depth investigation of a relevant health services management issue, or select a New Business Development Proposal or a Case Study in Context for a more practice-oriented approach aligned with professional interests and career goals. If a placement or project year is chosen, the research dissertation module is replaced by a placement or project module, providing valuable real-world experience and enhanced employability.
