COURSE CURRICULUM

This course is structured around advanced study in software development, algorithm design and user experience, enabling students to address complex computational challenges using contemporary tools and techniques. In Year 1, the curriculum emphasises both technical depth and research capability, ensuring a strong balance between theory and practical application. Core modules include Research Methods, which develops critical thinking and a rigorous approach to enquiry, alongside User-Centred Design and User Experience, focusing on designing effective and intuitive digital solutions. Programming and Optimisation strengthens advanced coding skills and performance-aware development, while Databases and Security addresses secure data management and protection strategies. Bio-Inspired Computing introduces innovative problem-solving approaches modelled on natural systems. Students may also choose from a range of optional modules such as Software Studio, Robotics, Statistical Programming, Programming for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Digital Forensics and Penetration Testing, allowing them to tailor their learning to specific career interests. The course culminates in a Research Project that enables students to apply their knowledge to an in-depth investigation of a real-world problem. For those opting for a Placement or Project Year, the Research Project is replaced by an independent project or professional placement, offering valuable extended experience in industry or research environments.
