COURSE CURRICULUM

The course is delivered in a modular format, with six taught modules at Level 7, each worth 20 credits, followed by a final research dissertation worth 60 credits. Each taught module involves 200 hours of learning, including approximately 30 hours of direct contact through lectures, seminars, and workshops, while the final research module consists of 556 hours of learning with around 35 hours of direct contact. The curriculum focuses on contemporary public health issues and evidence-based practice, developing a strong understanding of key concepts, principles, and evaluation methods used in public health. Core modules include Research in Public Health Practice, which builds research and analytical skills, and Epidemiology and Statistics for Public Health, providing essential tools to analyse population health data. Theories and Principles of Public Health explores the foundations of public health practice, while Communicable Disease in Public Health focuses on prevention, surveillance, and control strategies. Leadership and Health Policy Development develops strategic leadership skills and an understanding of policy-making processes, and The Economics of Health examines resource allocation and economic evaluation in healthcare systems. The program culminates in a Research Dissertation, allowing students to undertake an in-depth investigation into a public health issue of their choice, applying theory and research skills to real-world public health challenges.
