COURSE CURRICULUM
In Year 1, students will gain an advanced understanding of health psychology and clinical psychology, focusing on the social and neurocognitive aspects of health and wellbeing.The Putting Health into Context module (PSY7017-B) provides a critical exploration of the social context of health and wellbeing. Students will analyze theoretical approaches to understanding the psychology of health, as well as the challenges surrounding health promotion and care in diverse social contexts.The Topics and Theoretical Issues in Clinical Psychology module (PSY7014-B) promotes a critical appraisal of clinical psychology, emphasizing mental health, wellbeing, and the relief of mental distress. Students will consider ethical, historical, and socio-cultural issues in mental health, gaining insight into the ethical obligations and professional codes of conduct within clinical practice.The MSc Research Project in Psychology of Health and Wellbeing (PSY7020-E) equips students with the skills to design, conduct, analyze, and present an empirical research project focused on health and wellbeing. This project provides hands-on experience in applying research methodologies within this field.The Food and Behaviour module (PSY7015-B) explores the complex relationship between the mind, brain, and eating behavior. Students will critically evaluate theories and research findings, focusing on how psychological knowledge can guide food choices and promote dietary health, as well as the role of psychology in food product development.The Neurocognitive Health module (PSY7018-B) delves into the intersection of brain function, cognition, and health. Students will critically analyze methodological and theoretical issues in neurocognitive health and its application to wellbeing.Lastly, the Enhancing Lifespan Psychological Wellbeing module (PSY7027-B) examines factors influencing psychological wellbeing at different life stages. It covers environmental, social, psychological, and physical influences and strategies for enhancing wellbeing across the lifespan.
