COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, students in pharmaceutical sciences engage in modules that emphasize critical thinking, research, and specialized knowledge in pharmaceutical technologies and quality assurance.The Critical Appraisal of a Current Topic in Pharmaceutical Sciences module (PHA7005-B) develops students' ability to critically assess and understand current research in a specific area of pharmaceutical science. It provides opportunities for students to plan, undertake, and report on the appraisal of cutting-edge scientific work, both orally and in writing.The Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) and Quality by Design (QbD) module (PHA7050-B) focuses on the principles of Quality by Design (QbD) and Process Analytical Technology (PAT). Students will gain specialized knowledge in how these concepts are applied in pharmaceutical product development, manufacturing, and quality assurance to ensure consistent product quality.The Research Project module (PHA7011-E) is designed to develop students' scientific research skills. It allows them to engage in original thinking and problem-solving, providing a framework for creativity and the potential to create new knowledge. Students will gain hands-on experience with laboratory-based research and develop expertise in their chosen project area.The Science of Solid Dosage Forms and Advanced Pharmaceutical Technologies module (PHA7007-B) offers students a deep understanding of solid-state properties and their relevance to the design and performance of solid pharmaceutical dosage forms. The module focuses on particle engineering and the technology involved in the development and production of these forms, including hands-on experience with current technologies.The Quality Assurance and Medicine Safety module (PHA7051-B) provides students with an understanding of Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in the pharmaceutical industry. The module also covers regulatory procedures, WHO guidelines, and instrumental analysis methods for ensuring the quality and safety of medicines.
