COURSE CURRICULUM

The first year of the Forensic Science Master’s program provides students with a strong foundation in advanced scientific, legal, and professional skills essential for careers in forensic investigation. Core modules include Advanced Forensic Biology and Advanced Forensic Genetics, which deepen understanding of biological evidence and its applications in crime analysis. Law for Expert Witnesses equips students with the legal knowledge needed to present findings effectively in court, developing skills in giving evidence as an expert witness. The program also includes Professional Development, ensuring students build essential employability, communication, and leadership skills for working within forensic and scientific environments. Separation Science and Mass Spectrometry introduces advanced analytical methods used to identify and quantify complex mixtures, a critical tool in forensic chemistry. The Advanced Methods in Laboratory Forensics module focuses on laboratory techniques, evidence handling, and data interpretation, ensuring students are well-prepared for real-world forensic practice. A significant component is the Dissertation, which allows learners to carry out independent, in-depth research on a chosen forensic topic, demonstrating critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific writing. Together, these modules combine practical and theoretical learning, preparing students to operate at the intersection of science and law while advancing expertise in modern forensic science.
