COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the program, students will engage in a comprehensive set of modules designed to build their knowledge and practical skills in drug development, toxicology, and cancer therapeutics. The Toxicology and Safety Pharmacology module (INC7021-C) equips students with critical understanding of toxicology's role in drug development, emphasizing safety pharmacology and laboratory skills necessary for evaluating the safety of drugs. The Research Skills for Postgraduate Students module (INC7022-C) focuses on core research competencies, including laboratory techniques, scientific reading, writing, data analysis, and the ability to critique research literature. This module also strengthens students' communication skills, ensuring they can effectively present research findings.The Preclinical Models for Drug Evaluation module (INC7001-B) provides insight into the application of preclinical models for evaluating anti-cancer drugs, helping students develop problem-solving skills and a deeper understanding of experimental techniques. Students will also explore ethical considerations related to animal research. The Molecular Mechanisms of Toxicity module (INC7009-B) explores the molecular mechanisms behind drug-induced toxicity, with a focus on modern drug development, in vitro screening methods, and the development of new preclinical strategies. Students will gain hands-on experience in laboratory work, preparing detailed experimental reports that will be evaluated through coursework.The Case Studies in Drug Discovery module (INC7011-B) provides a broader perspective on current issues in drug discovery, helping students appreciate the diversity of research in this field. Finally, the Cancer Therapeutics Research Project module (INC7019-E) offers a real-world research project where students can apply their knowledge, collaborate with research teams, and develop critical skills in cancer therapeutics, regulatory compliance, and safety pharmacology. This module emphasizes self-direction and problem-solving, preparing students for future research endeavors.
