Year 1 of this program provides a comprehensive exploration of key concepts and practical skills related to cyber security and cryptography. The Applied Cryptography module (COS7052-B) covers advanced mathematical principles and widely researched cryptographic techniques, equipping students with the ability to secure network applications and gain insights into cryptanalysis methods. In the ISO27000 Framework (Information Security Management System) module (COS7030-B), students focus on the ISO/IEC 27001 standard for information security management, learning to implement systems that protect organizational assets, manage cyber risks, and comply with data protection requirements. The Network Security module (COS7055-B) introduces students to the different types of communication networks and the principles of network security, emphasizing performance analysis and the protection of networked systems. The Business Systems Security module (COS7035-B) examines the technologies behind secure systems and privacy concerns within business environments, preparing students to handle system vulnerabilities in the corporate world. The Cyber Physical Systems Security module (COS7051-B) focuses on securing systems such as robotics, medical devices, and self-driving cars, highlighting the critical need for safety measures in increasingly interconnected systems. Ethical Hacking (COS7029-B) teaches students how to identify vulnerabilities through penetration testing and develop mitigation strategies to defend against cyber-attacks.
