COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the Construction and Engineering program, students engage in modules that provide them with essential knowledge and skills for managing projects, assessing risks, and understanding the complexities of construction and engineering environments. The Construction Management (CSE7008-B) module introduces students to the key concepts and techniques of construction management within the context of engineering, design, and technology in the built environment. In the Management of Project Procurement and Construction Contracts (CSE7017-B) module, students gain a deep understanding of construction projects and the ability to tailor project management tools to effectively implement construction contracts. This module also encourages students to critically compare different schools of project management knowledge, including the APM Body of Knowledge and ISO 21500:2012. The Risk Assessment and Management modules (ENB6011-B and ENB7007-B) focus on identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing risks in engineering applications. Students learn how to apply risk management principles and tools to minimize potential threats, such as financial uncertainty, legal liabilities, and natural disasters. These modules emphasize the importance of implementing effective risk management strategies in real-world engineering scenarios. Finally, the MSc Project (ENG7002-E) allows students to further develop their practical evaluation and planning skills by engaging in large, academically demanding projects within their chosen engineering specialisation, providing them with the opportunity to implement and review activities to achieve set objectives within a given time frame. These modules collectively prepare students to confidently manage and mitigate risks, implement effective construction management strategies, and tackle complex engineering challenges.
