COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the Pharmacy program, students engage in a range of modules designed to develop their clinical, leadership, and research skills in healthcare settings. The Research or Quality Improvement Project (PHA7094-E) allows students to conduct a project that focuses on improving a service relevant to their practice, utilizing critical review of literature and analysis of service data to make actionable recommendations. The Pharmacy Placement (PHA7095-Z) offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in clinical pharmacy within different healthcare sectors in the UK, fostering reflective practice and professional growth. In the Clinical Pharmacy Practice modules (PHA7090-C and PHA7092-C), students learn to confidently manage patients with various conditions, such as cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, renal, infection, immunology, mental health, cancer care, and pain. These modules emphasize evidence-based decision-making, effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals, and person-centred care, including at transitions of care. Healthcare Leadership (PHA7091-C) introduces students to theories of leadership, emotional intelligence, and teamwork in the context of the UK healthcare system, helping them reflect on their own leadership style and improve organizational culture. The Strategic Planning and Quality Improvement module (PHA7093-C) focuses on key principles of strategic management, clinical governance, and continuous quality improvement, offering students the skills to implement and evaluate beneficial changes within healthcare organizations. Together, these modules provide students with a comprehensive understanding of pharmacy practice, leadership, and healthcare systems, preparing them to deliver high-quality care and drive improvements in the field.
