COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the MSc program, students are introduced to key modules that lay the foundation for careers in software development, machine learning, and project management. The Software Development module (COS7009-B) provides an introduction to the essential programming knowledge and skills needed for developing software solutions in areas such as data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI), addressing real-world issues like social justice and climate change. Mobile Application Development (COS7025-B) introduces students to the legal, social, ethical, and professional aspects of designing and developing mobile apps, while also covering the latest technologies in mobile communication and web content display. Advanced Machine Learning (COS7045-B) focuses on machine learning algorithms used to solve big data challenges, helping students develop practical skills in applying these techniques to real-world problems in AI and predictive modeling. The MSc Group Project (COS7048-B) allows students to work in teams to apply project management principles to solve a research problem in computer science, using either computational solutions or fully developed software systems. Throughout the project, students gain hands-on experience in problem-solving, research, and software development, with a strong focus on ethical and professional considerations. The Dissertation module (COS7004-E) provides an opportunity for students to apply the tools and techniques they have learned to design a solution to a practical problem, either using real-world data or a hypothetical data set. By completing the dissertation, students demonstrate their ability to meet program learning outcomes and gain valuable experience to showcase to future employers. These modules collectively build a comprehensive understanding of software development, machine learning, and project management, preparing students for successful careers in the tech industry.
