COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the MSc in Chemical and Process Engineering, the Desalination Technology module (CPE7002-B) offers students an in-depth technological understanding of the sustainable production of freshwater using various desalination methods. The Transport Phenomena module (CPE7011-B) covers the fundamental principles of momentum, energy, and mass transport, focusing on the mathematical framework of conservation equations and their applications to flow, heat transfer, and mass transfer situations. Students will also explore computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools to solve problems that cannot be addressed analytically.The Process Design module (CPE7014-B) introduces students to advanced principles of process design, considering chemical reactions and processes while accounting for technical, environmental, safety, and economic constraints. The Food and Pharmaceutical Process Engineering module (CPE7004-B) equips students with advanced knowledge in unit operations like mixing, crystallisation, drying, and membrane separation, along with insights into the economic, legal, and environmental issues surrounding food and pharmaceutical processing.The Upstream Production and Refinery Operations module (CPE7007-B) focuses on upstream petroleum and refining processes, providing expert-level knowledge in synthesis, simulation, and design of such processes. Finally, the MSc Project module (ENG7002-E) gives students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to a large, academically demanding project, where they practice planning, implementing, and reviewing activities to meet agreed objectives within a given timeframe. This combination of modules ensures that students gain a comprehensive and practical understanding of chemical engineering and its applications in various industries.
