COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, the curriculum includes a series of modules that provide students with both theoretical and practical knowledge to navigate the complexities of finance, accounting, and economics. The Corporate Finance module (AFE7513-A) explores how businesses make financing and investment decisions, focusing on the mix of debt and equity, sources of finance such as leasing, working capital management, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, real options, and financial distress. Students will critically analyze the financial strategies employed by companies. The Dissertation module (MAL7502-E) gives students the opportunity to conduct original research, demonstrating deep understanding in areas of finance. In the International Financial Accounting and Reporting module (AFE7514-B), students learn to critically understand and apply International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and accounting frameworks. They will gain skills in the preparation and interpretation of financial statements for different types of entities, enhancing their ability to present data effectively. The Quantitative Methods in Finance module (AFE7501-B) equips students with essential technical skills in mathematics, econometrics, and statistics, preparing them for advanced studies in finance. It also introduces fundamental finance and investment concepts. The Business Economics module (AFE7504-A) aims to provide students with a solid understanding of macroeconomic concepts and how they influence decision-making at both the household and firm levels. Students will gain insights into economic factors that shape global and local economies. Lastly, the International Banking module (AFE7502-B) explores the functioning of banks and central banks, with an emphasis on financial regulation, risk management, and the multi-dimensional risks faced by international banks. Students will develop critical analytical skills related to bank performance, portfolio management, and the complexities of bank mergers and acquisitions. These modules collectively lay the foundation for a career in finance, accounting, and banking, preparing students to address both practical and theoretical challenges in the field.
