COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the MRes program, students will engage in a series of modules designed to enhance their research capabilities and scientific skills. The MRes Project Part 1 (LIS7020-E) and MRes Project Part 2 (LIS7021-E) offer students the opportunity to apply advanced scientific techniques to real-world research projects. These modules emphasize self-direction, originality, and the development of problem-solving skills. Students will further enhance their analytical and critical thinking abilities, time management, and IT skills, while also gaining an understanding of current issues in their chosen research topics. The project modules also encourage teamwork and collaboration in a research setting.The Research Skills for Postgraduate Students (INC7022-C) module provides essential training in scientific research methods. This includes hands-on experience in laboratory techniques such as liquid handling and molecular biology, as well as data interpretation and scientific writing. Students will also develop their critical analysis skills by evaluating research literature and understanding the strengths and weaknesses of various laboratory assays. This module aims to improve students’ ability to communicate scientific ideas effectively, both in writing and through presentations, preparing them for independent research and professional development in the scientific field. Together, these modules build a solid foundation for advanced research and academic success in the MRes program.
