COURSE CURRICULUM

The Professional Development module (ARC7041-B) in Year 1 is designed to support students in gaining essential professional skills and knowledge specific to their chosen specialism. This module aims to provide the necessary practice for analytical, chemical, archaeological, and forensic science professionals, equipping students to identify and address their own learning needs. It helps students develop the skills required to achieve expertise in their field of study. Additionally, the module offers an introduction to research design (for those on dissertation routes) or professional brief writing (for non-dissertation routes). It includes training in both oral and written presentation, contributing to the overall development of students' academic and professional communication skills. Unlike conventional taught modules, this is more of a practical, session-based learning experience where students organize their own professional development, preparing for their dissertation or brief writing tasks. These sessions are held jointly with students from other disciplines, offering a collaborative learning environment. The main component of the module involves private study and regular interactions with an individual supervisor, ensuring that students receive personalized guidance in their professional and academic pursuits.The Dissertation module provides students with the opportunity to undertake an in-depth research project, allowing them to apply the skills and knowledge acquired throughout their studies. Students select a relevant research topic within their field, conduct original research, and present their findings in a formal written dissertation. This substantial piece of work integrates the theoretical and practical aspects of the program, preparing students for future careers in research, analysis, and specialized practice within archaeology or related disciplines.
