COURSE CURRICULUM

The law program is structured to provide comprehensive legal knowledge and practical experience. In Year 1, students are introduced to the English and Welsh legal system, including law sources, institutions, and the development of law (LAW4010-B). Key areas include Contract Law (LAW4007-B), which covers contract formation and breakdown, and Public Law (LAW4011-B), focusing on the British Constitution, the rule of law, and democratic processes. Students also develop essential academic and employability skills in Introduction to Legal Skills (LAW4009-B) and explore Tort Law (LAW4012-B), addressing non-contractual personal rights. The Human Rights module (LAW4008-B) examines debates in both national and international contexts. In Year 2, the program shifts towards practical skills and more specialized legal knowledge, with modules like Criminal Law (LAW5003-B), focusing on major criminal offences and liability, and Equity & Trust (LAW5015-B), which explores the operation of trusts. EU and International Law (LAW5014-B) offers insights into the international legal landscape, while Land Law (LAW5016-B) focuses on the principles of land ownership and rights. The Study Abroad or Placement Year offers international experience or a work placement. In the Final Year, students prepare for the Solicitors Regulation Authority's SQE1 through modules like SQE 1 Legal Theory and Solicitors Practice (LAW6031-D) and practical training in Law Clinic modules (LAW6028-D and LAW7098-D). The Law Dissertation (LAW6003-B) allows for in-depth research, and students also complete the SQE1 assessment (LAW6032-Z) to qualify for legal practice. This structured approach ensures that students acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for a successful legal career.
