COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, students engage with modules focused on the intersection of social-ecological systems, peace studies, and conflict engagement.The Dissertation module (PES7040-E) provides an opportunity for students to develop advanced knowledge and skills through independent research. Students are encouraged to design and execute a self-directed dissertation, fostering critical inquiry and time management skills in completing a major project.The Social-Ecological Systems and Crises module (PES7065-B) explores the understanding and engagement with social-ecological systems, with a focus on crises. Students are introduced to key concepts that enable them to assess social-ecological resilience and transformation, critically examining case studies of real-world systems and the ways human actors engage with crises.The Studying Peace in a Changing World module (PES7051-B) provides an introduction to Peace Studies, exploring its relevance to contemporary global challenges. Students analyze core concepts of peace, conflict, injustice, and violence, using interdisciplinary approaches to understand and respond to these issues. This module also encourages critical reflection on how these theories apply to real-world conflicts and crises.The Creative Practice in Conflict Engagement and Peacebuilding module (PES7063-B) focuses on developing students’ skills as reflective, creative practitioners in peacebuilding and social justice. This module supports students in exploring the potential of creative, arts-based approaches to conflict engagement, while also emphasizing the importance of ethical practice in social healing and peacebuilding.
