COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the LLM program, students engage with modules that prepare them for the Solicitors Regulation Authority's (SRA) assessments and provide practical experience through law clinic work. The SQE 1 module (LAW6032-Z) is designed to record the completion of the program’s requirement to pass the SRA's external SQE1 assessment. This assessment is an essential part of the qualification process for solicitors in England and Wales.The SQE2 Legal Theory & Solicitors Practice module (LAW7100-D) builds on the foundational knowledge and skills developed at Levels 4, 5, and 6, further preparing students for the SQE1 exam. This module enhances students' understanding of legal theory while honing practical skills required for solicitors.Law Clinic 1 (LAW7097-D) and Law Clinic 2 (LAW7098-D) are practical modules where students advise and assist members of the public. These clinics help students refine their legal skills in real-world settings, addressing a range of legal issues. Students may also mentor colleagues in Levels 5 and 6 who are undertaking advice work. Through these clinics, students combine legal analysis with an understanding of legal ethics, preparing them to become competent and ethical professionals while developing a critical understanding of access to justice and the human, social, and ethical limits of the law.The Dissertation module (LAW7101-D) allows students to conduct independent, advanced research in their area of LLM specialization. This module encourages students to develop theoretical and policy arguments, advancing their research skills, written and oral communication, and problem-solving abilities. It also requires reflection on personal and professional development.
