COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the LLM program, students engage with both foundational and advanced modules, critical for their development as legal professionals. The Dissertation module (LAW7032-E) provides students with the opportunity to conduct independent research, advance theoretical arguments, and recommend policy reforms while developing transferable skills such as effective communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The Foundations of Law and Skills (DL) module (LAW6029-Z) introduces students to English and international legal systems, emphasizing essential academic skills like research, critical analysis, and independent learning. This mandatory module equips students with the foundational knowledge necessary for success in the LLM program, especially for those new to law or from non-common law backgrounds. The Sustainable Development Law in Contemporary Business and Society module (LAW7030-B) offers an in-depth look at international legal frameworks governing sustainable development, focusing on issues like poverty eradication, environmental protection, and human rights. This module is particularly relevant in the context of corporate governance, banking, and international trade. Finally, the Regulatory Theory and Practice module (LAW7035-B) explores the theoretical foundations of regulation, challenging students to critically examine the necessity, structure, and approaches to regulation. Students will engage with various regulatory theories, gaining insight into how regulatory frameworks impact legal disputes.
