In Year 1 of the LLM program, students explore foundational and advanced legal concepts essential for their specialization. The Dissertation module (LAW7032-E) provides students with the opportunity to conduct independent, advanced research and develop theoretical and policy arguments, while acquiring transferable skills such as written and oral communication and problem-solving. The Foundations of Law and Skills (DL) module (LAW6029-Z) serves as an induction, offering an introduction to both the English and International Legal Systems. It equips students with essential research, critical thinking, and analytical skills, preparing them for advanced scholarship and practical application of legal principles. This module is compulsory for all LLM students, ensuring a solid foundation in English and international law. The Sustainable Development Law in Contemporary Business and Society module (LAW7030-B) introduces international legal frameworks on sustainable development, covering areas such as business, environment, human rights, and international trade. This module is crucial for understanding the role of law in addressing development challenges and sustainability, particularly in the context of corporate governance, banking, commercial law, and human rights. The Regulatory Theory and Practice module (LAW7035-B) provides students with a theoretical foundation in regulatory theory, exploring key questions on the necessity and structure of regulation. It covers approaches such as risk-based, public interest, and responsive regulation, helping students critically assess regulatory frameworks and their application in legal practice.
