COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, students are introduced to key legal concepts. The Contract Law module provides knowledge on the formation, content, and breakdown of contracts, as well as developing skills to identify and solve contractual issues. Human Rights focuses on the key debates and issues around human rights, both nationally and internationally. The Introduction to Legal Skills module aims to build academic skills, ethical awareness, and employability traits, such as reflective learning and collaboration. Legal System: Sources and Institutions examines the English and Welsh legal system, helping students understand how laws are created and applied in an international context. Finally, the Law of Tort module develops an understanding of the principles governing non-contractual relationships and the rights protected by tort law, while also addressing its political and socio-economic implications.In the second year, Clinical and Employability Skills in Context further enhances employability by improving legal research, clinical, and transferable skills. Criminal Law provides a working knowledge of criminal offences and liability, focusing on major criminal offences and their evaluation, including contemporary proposals for reform. The EU and International Law module gives an overview of the international framework in which English law operates, helping students develop the skills to research European Union and international law effectively. Public Law introduces the British Constitution, the rule of law, and the separation of powers, examining the democratic process, constitutional issues, and parliamentary privileges. Land Law focuses on the principles regulating the ownership, acquisition, and enforceability of land rights in England and Wales, considering the political and socio-economic contexts.In the third year, students can choose to study abroad or participate in a placement year. In the final year, students complete a Law Dissertation, conducting significant research on a relevant topic, while the extended version allows for more in-depth inquiry. The Business Project focuses on applying business and management research skills to address real-world challenges, emphasizing ethics, sustainability, and responsible management. Finally, Equity & Trust delves into the operation of trusts, exploring trustee duties, breaches, and legal consequences, along with developing legal analysis skills.
